THE PLACE: Found in a historic building on the main street of Thornbury that originally housed a bakery, Interior Motives serves up a menu of furnishings, accents and giftware that will make homeowners' mouths water. It's a location owner, Leslie Lewis, has always coveted. "I wanted to put my roots down in a town like Thornbury and do something I love to do. I've been coming to the area for 15 years. It's a four-season recreational area. If anyone says they're bored, all they have to do is open their front door!"

THE STYLE: For anyone transitioning to a contemporary look. "I personally like to mix it up, with, say an antique piece next to a Barcelona chair," Lewis says. The focus is on unique highend brands in the decorative arts, including Michael Aram, Robert Abbey and Jonathan Adler, as well as unique Canadian designs such as Surface Collection's vinyl graphic wall tattoos or dna 11's use of the customer's own DNA images to create striking wall art.

IN A NUTSHELL: Lewis, who took over the business a year-and-a-half ago, captures the essence of her shop. "We try hard to be unique. It's a small town and we try to stand out. We try hard to find unique products. My research takes me to Las Vegas, New York and Europe. I have to see and touch products for myself, otherwise I can't guarantee the quality for my customers," she says. When asked how things are going, Lewis smiles openly. "We've had a great first year, but I'm always learning. My customers are loyal and people love to spread the love."

THE ANGLE: "I hope our selection reflects something for everyone," says Lewis. "I hope the works we carry reference everybody because our customer base is extremely varied - from young people to those older."

THE PRODUCTS: Along with work by recognized designers Michael Aram, Leonardo and Blomus, Lewis's emphasis is on cutting-edge Canadian design and on quality home accents, including customized rug and mirror systems that meet a range of price points. There are a variety of mirrors and frames to choose from to suit your particular home décor. Design consultations are also available.

UNIQUE: Along with high-end design and innovative giftware for the home that reflect every season, Interior Motives works with others to provide full design services - interior design and general design to help with the smallest room to a build-out.
